Star Fruit
Carambola also known as starfruit, is a little sour product of
Averrhoa carambola, a tree mostly grown in the Philippines, Indonesia,
Malaysia, ,Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
starfruit is famous throughout Southeast
Asia, the South Pacific and East Asia. The tree has now spread to countries like Latin
America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. This tree grows well under hot climatic conditions. The fruit has received the name starfruit, because it is star shaped.
The whole fruit is edible and is
generally eaten with salt. Star fruit also can be cooked. People in Sri Lanka make jelly, jam and juice out of star fruits.
