Coconut trees can be seen in many villages near the coastal belt of Sri Lanka. In fact coconut is one of the main crops  in Sri Lanka. Mostly in areas like Chilaw, Kurunegala and Colombo coconuts are grown. These three areas are known as the coconut triangle of Sri Lanka. According to Sri Lankans and many people who love coconut, coconut is the tree of life. They refer to it as the tree of life maybe because the tree has many uses. In fact Coconut produces an amazingly delicious milk and it is part and parcel of every Sri Lankan dish. Coconut oil is a good hair conditioner and is applied by many Sri Lankan women. Coconut husks are used to make ropes and brooms. Out of coconut shells people in Sri Lanka make spoons. Coconut leaves were used those days to cover houses. In the sense instead of tiles people in Sri Lanka have used coconut leaves on their houses. Coconut trunk is very strong and is used as timber. All in all it is no surprise that a lot of people refer to this tree as 'the tree of life.'
